From access to boundless nature and gorgeous architecture that’s unique to the area to buzzing market towns and great transport links to surrounding major cities, The Cotswolds pretty much has it all.
The Cotswolds has always been a popular area to escape to the countryside. With the rise in hybrid and remote working, it’s quickly become a hugely sought after location in the UK to call home for those looking for less urban, more beautiful places to live and work.
Besides being immersed in peaceful surroundings, there are plenty of perks that come with owning a country home in The Cotswolds. Here are just a few, beautifully demonstrated by homes we’ve been proud to sell on to new, lucky homeowners:
Most people feel the pull to the countryside for more space, amazing views and quiet. For those that want to curate their own outdoor spaces though, then a country home definitely gives you that benefit.
Cotswold Lodge in Brownshill near Stroud is an exceptional village house in its own right but its gardens are something extra special. Owned previously by an outdoorsy family, the space was made for outdoor play. Think family games, climbing trees, riding bikes, croquet, boules and al fresco events such as family film night in a makeshift cinema under the canopy of trees to parties in the gardens. It's a home with soul that gave little ones the ability to grow up enjoying exploring their own back gardens.
The Old Braggs is another beautiful Cotswold home sitting on around two acres of gardens and paddocks for horse lovers. Overflowing with stories and history, the home and gardens feel suspended in time, with a well as a central feature and a beautiful outlook over the Cotswolds countryside.
Many Cotswolds country homes come with space to install a pool either indoors or outdoors if it’s something you’ve always yearned for in the home. If you’re lucky, then you can probably find a country home already kitted out with a stunning pool.
Stoneridge House took this one step further and created their own luxury home spa. Featuring a heated pool, steam and sauna rooms with a changing room and wc, there’s no need to go on a spa break when it’s only steps away from the kitchen.
For those that love the idea of taking a dip outdoors then there are plenty of homes that come with their own outdoor pools too. Querns House is set among gorgeous grounds and its heated pool is wonderful for a swim in winter when you want to still make the most of the fresh, crisp air. In summer, the pool is just the antidote to summer heatwaves and an ideal spot for a family and friends bbq nights!
With homes built among the Cotswolds’ rolling hills it often means that they come with some exciting, nature-filled extras. That could be as simple as easy access to walking routes with resident deer to call neighbours or as lucky as having your own on-site lake. This is the case for the owners at The Manor House in Upper Swell who enjoy watching sunsets over their own lake in the garden, among some of the most idyllic countryside settings one could imagine. “We love to string up a hammock in the shade under the massive sycamore tree and watch the swans patrolling the lake with the cygnets strung out in a line behind them”.
Village life may have preconceptions of being dull, but the joy of living in a Cotswolds village is the generally slower way of life, allowing you to take things at your own pace. Beyond that, there’s more of a sense of community and feeling part of a place which can make your house feel much more like a home.
Ditch Lane Cottage was very much beloved for its stunning location in the village of Winson, right beside the River Coln. Its location made it a perfectly tranquil and beautiful place to live, paired with lovely neighbours who are friendly and respectful of privacy.
The previous owner of the beautiful Grade II listed Cotswolds cottage at 40-41 Barnsley named it their special corner of The Cotswolds to truly call home with a busy travel itinerary for work, “I could retreat to drink in its inner peace and calm and reconnect with dear friends and family.”
Another major perk of owning a country home in The Cotswolds, is that fact that you can enjoy a slower, rural life while still being connected to bigger towns and cities for when you need a little hustle and bustle.
