Enjoy the Outdoors: Activities in The Cotwolds

As the country gradually begins to open back up over the coming weeks, we thought we would share a list of outdoor activities to enjoy in your unlimited exercise time. As always in these rapidly changing times, please do check with each individual business before visiting to check their most up-to-date guidelines:

Golf

Golf courses are now open across The Cotswolds since the Government's announcement on 13 May, however rounds need to be booked in advance to ensure capacity is kept within the guidelines and social distancing can be observed.

Minchinhampton Golf Club – open again but currently only to members - the trio of courses between Avening and Minchinhampton are popular with locals, offering a range of abilities with a focus on ecology in their lakes, greens and woodlands.

Naunton Downs Golf Club near Cheltenham is open to its members, simply book in your time slot online or over the phone and you're ready to tee off!

Broadway Golf Club - boasting some of the finest views in The Cotswolds, Broadway Golf Club was established in 1895, on an escarpment overlooking the vale of Evesham to the Malvern Hills and Black Mountains beyond. Open to its members, it's the perfect location for a few rounds in the sunshine.

Cirencester Golf Club is welcoming back its 450-strong members from this week to enjoy the sunshine with a round or two of golf, or a session in the driving range to brush up on their swing.

Cycling

Cycle routes around The Cotswolds are open for keen cyclists to get back on their bikes and explore; either from their front door or further afield now restrictions have been eased. A great way of getting your daily exercise, perhaps stopping off for some shopping en route and now, within permitted guidelines, you could even pack a picnic to enjoy outdoors.

Nature Walks

The countryside has remained open throughout lockdown (and we feel very grateful for it!) but now restrictions have been lifted as to how far you can travel to go for a walk, drop a pin on the map and use this time to discover new areas of The Cotswolds that you have yet to discover. The Cotswolds 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' website is a great place for inspiration, offering a range of self-guided walks in the area.

Tennis

As restrictions now allow you to meet one other person from outside your household - a game of tennis is now on the cards. We might not be able to manage doubles just yet, but a set a deux is definitely do-able as long as social distancing measures are adhered to. There are a range of tennis clubs opening up throughout May, here are just a few:

  1. Hill and Valley Lawn Tennis Club in Chedworth
  2. Cirencester Tennis Club
  3. Chipping Campden Tennis

Running

If you're looking to burn off a bit of energy after 8 weeks indoors, All Trails offers a range of trail runs and routes to choose from throughout The Cotswolds if you have exhausted your local running routes.
